What is LEO?
As of January 2025, LUSD's Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP) is now called LEO. The name captures the heart of what we offer: engaging Learning experiences, Enriching activities, and Opportunities to grow academically and personally. LEO operates in partnership with local and national providers to serve students in TK through grade 6 with high-quality afterschool programming every school day.
Enrollment information

LEO serves students in transitional kindergarten through sixth grade at participating LUSD elementary schools. The program is offered afterschool during the regular school year and during summer.

By law, LUSD prioritizes enrollment in accordance with California state guidelines for the ELOP and ASES programs. Once priority students are enrolled, remaining spaces are offered to other students on a first-come, first-served basis as availability allows. We’re proud that all LUSD elementary schools offer after-school programming for the 26-27 school year! For convenience and ease of access, after-school programming takes place on elementary school campuses.

Our district primarily provides after-school services via our partners, either the Boys & Girls Club, or the YMCA Club (depending upon school site).

Yes! All elementary (TK-6) families are welcome and encouraged to apply for after-school programming! It’s a great way to ensure that your child continues to receive academic and enrichment support, in a safe & supervised setting, after the normal school day ends!

Yes - after-school programming in our district is free for most offerings!

State funding requirements help ensure that our district’s neediest families are prioritized in the enrollment process. As detailed in California Education Code, these are defined as students who are: English learners; or eligible for free or reduced-price meals; or are foster youth/homeless. Depending on circumstances, students may be placed on a Wait List during the enrollment process.

The application link remains open through the summer months. After cleaning and double checking the data, we intend to update families at the end of July. Families are encouraged to watch their email Inbox carefully for additional information and details.

After-school programs run every school-day during the year, and are open until 6:00 pm.

Parents are encouraged to reach out directly to the after-school program leader (either the Boys & Girls Club Lead, or the YMCA Lead) at their child’s school for specific questions. Alternatively, parents are welcome to ask their child’s principal for more information.
