Visual and Performing Arts

Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA)

We are committed to providing a complete, high-quality, inclusive Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) education with equitable access for all students, applying adequate resources and instruction, driven by stakeholder involvement. Our goal is to ensure that every student has the opportunity to explore their creative potential. Students across LUSD have numerous opportunities to engage in standards-based music, dance, theater, media arts, and visual arts learning experiences. VAPA classes are taught by credentialed LUSD teachers and by local artists. VAPA includes Dance, Music, Theatre Arts, and Visual Arts.

Elementary VAPA

Elementary students engage in VAPA learning experiences during the school day and after school. All TK-6 students regularly receive instruction in drama, music, dance, and visual art provided by qualified arts educators and certificated classroom teachers. VAPA is also a key component in after-school programs offered at each of the elementary schools. Detailed information is available at each school.

Los Berros Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) Academy

Los Berros Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) Academy offers integrated arts instruction as a pathway to learning to support TK-6 students to grow artistically, academically, socially, and emotionally. At Los Berros, visual and performing arts are integrated into all subject areas, including science, language arts, mathematics, and social studies. Through art-integrated learning experiences, students develop 21st-century skills required for success: critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication. Students in third grade and above participate in both trimester and year-long elective courses aligned with the state visual and performing arts standards and frameworks. Enrollment for students living outside of the Los Berros attendance area is contingent upon approval of an intra-district transfer.
