Health Exams

Health Exam

The State of California requires school districts to require parents of first-grade students, upon enrollment, to provide a certificate of health examination, or sign a waiver for a health exam. The health exam may be given up to 18 months before or within 90 days after entering first grade. Parents are encouraged to obtain the health exam simultaneously with immunizations.

The district will cooperate in measures necessary for the prevention and control of communicable diseases. A physical examination will not be given to a child whose parent requests this exemption in writing.

Oral Health Assessment

To make sure your child is ready for school, California law now requires children to have an oral health assessment by May 31 in either transitional kindergarten (TK), kindergarten, or first grade, whichever is his or her first year in public school. Assessments that have occurred within the 12 months before your child enters school also meet this requirement. The law specifies that the assessment must be done by a licensed dentist or other licensed or registered dental health professional.
